… Between six hundred and eight hundred volunteers, he pointed out, had served on the western front with the French Foreign Legion. Only forty of them were still alive, some in hospitals. Three Armenian battalions of the Légion d’Orient had been cited by the French commander for zeal and endurance. Their loyalty to the Entente had never been denied. General Allenby, in command of the Allied forces in the middle east, had also praised them in a telegram to the Armenian National Delegation. Finally, 150,000 Armenians had fought in the Russian army and had held the front in the Caucasus after the Russians had dropped out of the war.
